The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site* in December 1999. It's a 2-foot (610 mm) gauge railway between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling built between 1879 and 1881. It's about 55 miles (88 kilometers) long and climbs from about 330 ft. ( 100 meters) to 7,407 ft. (2,200 meters) above sea level. It's an integral part of the Darjeeling landscape and Darjeeling's story. Indeed, no visit to Darjeeling can be complete without taking a ride on the train.  [su_dropca
