Literally steeped in alcohol, the subtlety of the rare teas in this collection from Jo Malone London was completely preserved, according to master perfumer Serge Majoullier.
“Infusion is a traditional perfumery process not often used today. We thought it would be interesting to revisit it to create a highly modern collection of scents,” said Majoullier.
Each scent is based on one of six different kinds of tea — silver needle, jade leaf, Darjeeling, oolong, golden needle, and midnight black tea. The silver needle is delicately floral. Spring buds used to brew Darjeeling are plucked in the Himalayas. The scent is freesia cool with apricot notes of davana.
The Jade leaf, steamed 22 hours, hints of Japanese sencha and sesame with a slight marine note, while the wulong presents a buttery soft scent. The golden needle adds leather and spice, and woodiness. Midnight black is seductive with vanilla, labdanum and guaiacwood.
