Culinary experience reinvented through tea infusion and color
Vancouver-based Tealeaves collaborated with the Pantone Color Institute in curating a posh and colorful fusion of food, liquor and tea. Thirty world-renowned chefs and mixologists were challenged to create a recipe for a tea entrée, tea dessert and tea cocktail, inspired by selections from Tealeaves’ Whole Leaf Pyramid Teabag collection and one out of ten selected PANTONE colors. Creations expressed a mood such as bold, peaceful or enchanted. The process is showcased on the PaletteForYourPalate online exhibit in sleek videos, with notes on the conceptualization and individual recipes.
The exquisite online exhibit shows that tea, as a non-traditional fine dining element, can inspire fine culinary expression. Tea rightly deserves the spotlight according to Laurie Pressman, Vice President of Pantone Color Institute. “Color has the ability to draw us in and immediately create an emotional connection to the things we love…when consumers pick up that box of tea on the shelf, it will truly resonate with them as it will evoke certain moods,” she said.
Interesting article. I look forward to more articles on Tea + Color + Mood = Tea Experience. I truly feel now is the time for the tea industry to emphasize the unique taste of tea through “tea experiences” that will rival the high priced wine industry’s images. Perhaps it is now time to move beyond the refinement of the commodity of tea onto the creation of tea experiences. Of course, none of this would be possible without the availability of properly steeped quality tea.
