Hello there,

Can you believe it’s March already! I never got to send out a newsletter wishing everyone for the Chinese New Year. So here’s my belated wishes for the Year of the Snake. Here, in India, the first flush plucking has begun and Holi, the festival of colour marking the arrival of spring, is around the corner. I am measuring the passage of time by seasons and celebrations, more to look forward to this way.

I am really happy to introduce Adeline Teoh who is based in Sydney and has been a longtime tea enthusiast. I caught her just before her trip to China and she has returned with three stories from Chaozhou. The first of these is up!

We also have a story from Mainbayar Badarch, our writer in Mongolia who is allowing us vicarious views of Central Asia. Once again, it’s a reminder that we are more similar than different.

Diana Jendoubi, who is now in Sri Lanka writes a guide to Colombo for the discerning tea drinker. Plenty of places to add to your list if you are headed here.

Lastly, a week ago, there was an accident in which the Jasbire tea factory burned down in Nepal, leaving its owner Sharad Subba injured. News and updates have been coming from Nishchal Banskota of Nepal Tea Collective who has also launched a crowdfunding campaign to help Sharad get back on his feet and rebuild his life and factory. We had written about Sharad and his incredible story some time ago and it has been very sad to read about these recent developments. We will continue to carry the link to the fundraiser for some time. So please do share it to those who may be able to help.

Wishing everyone good health,

Aravinda Anantharaman
