Hello readers,
Greetings to you from Manila, Philippines. I am here for the Philippines National Coffee Championships and to explore the beautiful city of Manila. So far, I have seen the old town of Intramuros, the very modern and chic Makati City and Fort Bonifacio Global City, and the oldest Chinatown in the world – Binondo. I have been admiring and visiting the beautiful tea houses here. Just today, I was at the very iconic Ying Ying tea house in Binondo, known for old Chinese-style teahouses blending in with Filipino cuisine, such as the practice of serving a slit Calamansi on the table. Would you like to know more about my travels and findings here? Do tell.
Back to this email. I am always struck by how tea offers more than flavor – it offers refuge. That is what the article I am sharing today is about. It is part of the incredible Matcha issue that Tea Journey is putting together.
In this article, Tea Journey writer John Smagula and a fifth‑generation farmer, Keiji Miyano, remind us that matcha is not only a drink but a ritual of breath, presence, and renewal. His practice blends meditation with wabi‑sabi, teaching us to embrace imperfection and find calm in each whisk. Reading his words, I felt the quiet power of pausing, breathing, and savoring the moment. I invite you to join us in discovering how a simple bowl of matcha can gather the scattered heart and restore balance.
Don’t forget to share the stories with your friends, family, colleagues, or anyone who you feel would enjoy reading them.
