Hello everyone,

Tea brings people together and helps forge connections that stay strong for a long, long time. Our tea-time buddies and friends are some of our closest folks, aren’t they?

Today, Tea Journey writer and friend, Anne-Frederique Dayraut, talks about The Tea Party. What started as casual tea gatherings along the Seine in Paris has now blossomed into a global movement. The Tea Party – where strangers become friends over shared pots and discovered flavors – now spans continents, with over 115,000 members worldwide building communities one cup at a time.

Anne’s article captures the pure magic of tea meetups: discovering teas you never knew you would love, learning new brewing rituals from fellow enthusiasts, and expanding your palate beyond what you could explore alone. These gatherings aren’t about brands or business—they are about authenticity, curiosity, and the simple joy of connection.

Whether you are in Paris, New York, Mumbai, Tokyo, or anywhere between, this is your invitation to explore the tea communities thriving in your city. Because the best teas are the ones we discover together.

Could this inspire your next tea gathering?

Also, the article gives you some very valuable tips and ideas if you want to host a tea meetup in your city. So, if putting your city/community on the global tea meetup map is something you want to do, this article is a must-read for you.

Yours in tea,

By Anne-Frédérique Dayraut

Last week, I was in Bengaluru. One of my favorite places to dine at in Bengaluru is the Lupa on MG Road. On their cocktail menu, I found a very interesting drink. They call it the Grape Gatsby Martini. Why I found it interesting, you ask? Because one of the ingredients in the cocktail was Genmaicha – the Japanese tea with brown rice. The drink is described as “The Martini for a wine lover, bright with grape, textured with toasted tea, and finished with bursts of Malbec. Elegant, playful, and quietly indulgent.”

Apart from Genmaicha, the drink had vodka, red grape cordial, and dry vermouth, served with a side of a big spoonful of Malbec caviar. The flavor descriptors for the drink were “Tangy, Bright, Toasted Tannins”.

Here is a picture of the drink:

The Martini was delicious and definitely gave out the Great Gatsby vibes. In retrospect, I probably should have taken a picture of myself holding up the glass, Great Gatsby style!

Have you had any such delicious cocktails that have tea as one of their ingredients? I would love to know all about it, so drop me an email or find me on my socials.

The North West Tea Festival and the Brussels Tea Festival just wrapped up a few days ago. I am sure a lot of you attended. If you have any interesting stories to share or ideas you believe we must write about, send me a note. I would love to hear all about it.

Next time, we will talk all about the world’s first Tea Color Wheel, published by the World Tea Academy. Stay tuned.

Also, Tea Journey is raising funds to relocate to the tea lands in 2025. Fill out this quick survey to register your interest here.
